For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven... Ecclesiastes 3:1 |
About the Book...
Life follows a God-created movement of seasonal rhythms. Wild variations securely nestled within consistent, predictable patterns. Consider each 24-hour span of time where light arrives and departs. And then does it again. And again. Or the steady calendar of days, weeks, months, seasons, years. There is this recurring ebb and flow built into creation. The same, but altogether different with each pass. We know what is coming, yet we don’t. We weave through an oxymoron of consistent change. God could have made the backdrop of our lives and days on earth in any manner of ways. He could have made what sustains creation any number of things. But in it all, He created this rhythm. These natural, cyclical patterns.
Like nature, we too were created for this movement, our individual lives weaving in and out of seasons. Some rich and full of light, some dark and lonely. Some planting seeds of hope for something to come, some reaping the rewards of REALLY hard work. Some full of abundance and celebration, some full of silence, sorrow, and waiting. Embedded in it all is a truth that we reap what we sow. The seeds we sow, the field we sow in, and the work to develop them directly affect the harvesting to come.
The seasonal life of the farmer looks like preparing soil and planting crops in the spring, weeding and nurturing in the summer, harvesting crops and getting things ready for the cold months ahead in fall, and a slower, settling down pace in the winter. The activity aligns with the seasonal landscape.
Within our life, whether it be life stage, education, work, location, health, physical, spiritual, family, relationships, hobbies, dreams, habits, thought patterns, behaviors, etc., we too cycle through seasons. There are times to prepare and plant, to weed and water, to harvest and celebrate, to wait and rest. The important work in one season impacts the seasons that follow.
Recognizing our seasonal rhythms will help us fully live in each with greater understanding and hope. A new season is always coming. That is a promise; a gift from our Creator. NO season is wasted. There is purpose – and we have purpose – in each season. Embracing this truth will ease our fears and help us be alert and aware of our roles in each season.
The aim of this book is to help you learn to gain an appreciation for the various seasons through exploring the seasonal patterns God created, looking at your seasons from several different lenses, and discovering how to get the most out of each to live the full life God created you to live. Questions are included throughout the book to reflect as you journey through the seasons of life.
